Calloway Golf Clubs are certainly among the
top ranks of golf clubs. Many professional tour players use and
endorse Callaway equipment, including Arnold Palmer, Phil
Michelson, Annika Sorenstam, among many others. This article
will provide an overview of the equipment available from
Callaway Golf.
Irons
The company offers six different options for irons. The X-20
and X-20 Tour product lines are the most popular, and these are
heavily advertised on TV commercials. The X-20 set retails for
$699 for an 8 club set with steel shafts and $899 for graphite
shafts.
The Fusion Wide |
Sole and Fusion Irons are the most expensive and
can cost over $1,000 for an 8 club set. In the Fusion line, 3 different
materials are fused together to redistribute weight in the club head. A
set of forged irons is offered for $899, and the lowest priced irons are
the Big Bertha line. These retail for $599 with steel shafts and $799
with graphite. There are options available on the Calloway Golf Clubs
web site to customize the set a bit. One has a choice of a number of
different branded shafts and of course shaft flex which can be
specified. There is also the possibility of specifying a few other
parameters including different grips and club lengths. One can also
purchase sets of 7 clubs and order hybrids separately.
Drivers
Calloway Golf Clubs offers 9 different options for
drivers. Their newest models, the FT-i and FT-i Tour, and the FT5 and
FT5 Tour are currently on back-order as this article is being written.
The current wait time for shipment is about 3 weeks. These new models
are obviously very popular despite their prices. The two FT-i drivers
are $499 each, and the FT5 drivers are slightly less at $429 and $449
for the Tour version. The Fusion FT3 and FT3 Tour are made from carbon
steel and titanium, and both of these retail for $329. The lowest
priced drivers offered are the X460 and X460 Tour, which are $199 each
The Big Bertha 460 is also offered for $299. Some of the drivers are
available in left handed and women’s versions, but not all are. In fact
the new models on back order are only available now for right handed
men. Once they catch up to the demand, perhaps Callaway Golf Clubs will
offer the clubs to women and left handed people. There are choices
available for different lofts, different shafts, shaft flex, and even
club length, so some level of personalization is possible.
Fairway Woods and Hybrids
Six types of fairway woods are offered by Callaway
Golf Clubs, as well as three lines of hybrid clubs. Once again, the
Fusion line is the most expensive, as several materials are fused
together in the club head. These clubs run $299 each. The X and X Tour
fairway wood lines sell for $179 each for steel shafts and $199 for
graphite. A line called X Hot Fairway woods sells for $229. Both Big
Bertha and FT fairway woods retail for $179 with steel shafts and $199
with graphite. As for hybrid clubs, the FT-Hybrid line sells for $179
with steel and $199 with graphite shafts, while the X Hybrid line
retails for $139 in steel shafts and $159 with graphite. A lower priced
line of hybrids called Heavenwood Hybrids sells for $99 with steel and
$129 with graphite shafts.
Wedges
Calloway Golf Clubs offers two lines of wedges. X
Tour Chrome wedges sell for $109 each and X Tour Vintage clubs cost $119
each. These are only offered in men’s right and left handed options.
Of course there are wedges included in the iron sets, and most of those
are offered in women’s versions and for lefties.
All the choices discussed above makes choosing a
new set of golf clubs somewhat daunting. And of course we have
only been discussing options from Callaway Golf Clubs, and there are
numerous other top level companies that have full lines as well.
How does one begin to make a choice that makes sense? The answer
is to have a proper club fitting by a certified professional.
There are certified professional club makers throughout the country.
In addition, companies like Callaway are recognizing
the trend for golfers to have custom fittings before choosing a new set
of clubs in order to get the most out of their games. They have several
levels of custom fitting possibilities, and that will be the subject of
another article entitled
Callaway Custom Golf Clubs. Suffice it to say, however, that if you are playing Callaway
Golf Clubs you are using equipment that is top of the line.
