2008 Update- There are no significant changes in the Mizuno line of hybrids for 2008.

Mizuno hybrid golf clubs feature the CLK FLI-HI line of clubs.  As always, the design features of hybrid golf clubs are geared to allow players to hit the golf ball in the air more easily than they can with conventional long irons.  To do this the center of gravity (CG) of the club head is lowered and placed farther back from the club face.  Also, weight is normally redistributed around the club to create a higher moment of inertia (MOI), which means that the

club head will have less twist on off-center hits and is thus more forgiving on those types of shots. To address the first of these goals Mizuno designers have used what they call an “Ultra Thin Titanium Crown” which is attached to a stainless steel body, thus moving the CG lower and farther back behind the club face.  In addition, the clubs are given a slight offset which also helps get the ball up into the air more easily.

As for improving MOI, a perimeter weight distributed around the back of the club head redistributes weight to achieve this goal, and this added weight also makes a contribution to the positioning of the CG in the proper location.

Other features of the CLK FLI-HI line include what is called “CORTECH” technology which utilizes three variable face thicknesses and allegedly results in more uniform face deflection and more consistent distance control.  The sole design is also optimized to hit shots from different types of lies.

There are 4 clubs offered in the Mizuno hybrid golf clubs line, and there are essentially 2-5H clubs, although they are not marked that way.  Rather, they are marked with the amount of clubface loft.  The four versions have 17, 20, 23, and 26 degrees of loft.  The clubs come in left handed and ladies versions as well.  Standard shafts are Exsar HS2 for graphite and True Temper CLK Hybrid Superlite shafts in metal.  Of course there are several choices of  shaft stiffness for each.  A large number of other shafts are possible as well as custom options.

Standard grips are Golf Pride Tour Velvet 58 Round, but once again, other grips can be chosen as options.

Hybrid golf clubs can vary in appearance from looking more like wood clubs to looking more like irons, and some club makers offer a choice of both.  Mizuno hybrid golf clubs, however, look more like wood clubs, and this type of approach does make achieving the normal design goals mentioned earlier a bit easier.
