Update January 2008- The Nicklaus lines of hybrid golf clubs have not been changed since this article was written in 2007.

The Nicklaus Hybrid Golf Clubs products lines are quite extensive because the Nicklaus Golf Equipment Co. has three different full lines of golf clubs as well as a separate set of ladies golf clubs that include hybrids.  This article will discuss all these product offerings.

Nicklaus Dual Point Hybrid Golf Clubs

These hybrids are part of the Nicklaus Premium product line of golf clubs.  They have some unique features including a CG (center of gravity) of the club head that is aligned with the optimal flex point on the club face to give more

spring or trampoline effect.  Of course the latter feature gives more ball speed off the club face and thus more distance.  Coupled with this is a club face of variable thickness that adds to the trampoline effect.  There is progressive offset on the clubs as well, and offset helps to get the ball into the air easier.  As with all hybrids, weight is distributed low and back in the club heads, and this also helps to get the ball into the air easier with a hybrid golf club than with a corresponding long iron.  Forgiveness for off-center hits is another positive result of weight redistribution.

These clubs come in 2H-5H for right handed men and 3H-5H for left-handers.  Lofts are 18, 21, 24 and 27 degrees for the 2H-5H respectively.  Steel or graphite shafts are standard, and ladies versions for these hybrids can be purchased.

Jack Nicklaus Product Line: JN Tour and CD2 Hybrids

These two lines of hybrids from the Jack Nicklaus golf club product line both have a unique feature: an adjustable weight system that allows the golfer weight distribution options in the club head.  This means that the player can adjust the club to account somewhat for shots consistently pushed or pulled.  For example, more weight in the heel means the ball will go more to the left and will help a golfer who typically slices the ball or pushes shots off line to the right.  Additional weights and a wrench tool come with the club and offer a number of weight redistribution options.  The JN Tour hybrids have the weights placed more in the toe and heel of the club heads than do the CD2 hybrids in which the weights are more to the back.  Both sets can be obtained with standard steel or graphite shafts.  The JN Tour hybrids come in 2H-5H with lofts of 17, 20, 23, and 26 degrees respectively, while the CD2 hybrids also come in 2H-5H, but they have one more degree of loft for each club, that is, 18, 21, 24, and 27 degrees.

Bear Tracker BT3 Hot Ring Hybrid Golf Clubs

This hybrid set is part of the Golden Bear Golf Club line of clubs.  There is a “Hot Ring” of weight around the back of the club face, certainly to adjust the CG of the club to the rear and lower and also to provide a higher MOI (moment of inertia) to provide forgiveness for off-center hits.  There are 2H-5H clubs available for right handed players, and 3H and 4H for lefties.

JN Lady Compri HL Golf Clubs

This set of ladies clubs consists of 3 woods (1, 3, and 5), three hybrids, and 3 irons (9i, PW, SW).  The hybrids are 6H-8H, with lofts of 28, 34, and 40 degrees.  They come in both steel and graphite shafts, and the clubs can be purchased individually.  This looks to be a very sensible set of clubs for women, and any serious woman golfer in the market for new clubs should give them a look.

All these lines of clubs can be found at authorized golf shops around the country and around the world, and there is a search function on the company web site which will give you store locations.
