2008 Update- As of January 2008 no
changes have been made to the Srixon hybrid golf club product
line, so the following article is up to date.
The Srixon AD hybrid golf club line of
products emphasizes the basic design principles that make hybrid
golf clubs a valuable choice for many players. The goal is to
provide clubs that are easier to hit than long irons, which most
golfers cannot do well on a consistent basis.
The head of the golf club has several dominant features. A
tungsten weight lowers the CG (center of gravity) of the club
and also helps to provide a higher MOI (moment of inertia)
which |
diminishes the amount of twisting of the club at
impact. The result of a higher MOI is that the club is more forgiving
for off-center hits. The club face is made of a thin and flexible
maranging steel which provides a spring or trampoline effect, increasing
ball speed and thus distance as well. The clubs are also made with a
wider face than some other models to increase the hitting area and give
the golfer confidence that he can hit the ball successfully up into the
air.
Special graphite shafts designed specifically for
hybrid golf clubs come standard. Both stiff and regular flex shafts are
available, and both of these have flex points in the middle of the shaft
to make for a good launch angle which also helps get the ball up into
the air.
There are 3 hybrid clubs available, 3H-5H, with
lofts of 18, 21, and 24 degrees respectively. Club lengths are 40.5
inches for the 3H, 40 inches for the 4H, and 39.5 inches for the 5H.
Head volumes are 113 cc (cubic centimeters) for the 3H, 115 cc for the
4H, and 117 cc for the 5H. The 3H hybrid weighs 350 grams, the 4H 355
grams, and the 5H weights 360 grams. Apparently neither women’s nor
left-handed men’s versions of the Srixon AD hybrids are available. The
line sells for $149 each on some widely visited golf web sites, so they
are moderately priced compared to other brands of hybrids. |
