Titleist Hybrid Golf Clubs- 2009 Update- New 909 Series

For 2009 Titleist has come out with the new 909 series of hybrid clubs. There are 3 hybrid lines in this series, the 909H, 909F2, and 909F3. Each of these lines will be discussed below.

909H

The 909H is a progressive line of hybrids that attempts to optimize ball spin and launch angle for each of the 5 clubs in the set. In other words the CG (Center of Gravity) and MOI (Moment of Inertia) is slightly different for each hybrid. These

come in 15, 17, 19, 21 and 24 degree varieties. There is a weight screw, called a “SureFit Swingweight Screw” that is factory installed in each club head to keep the CG well to the back.

Each club is made with a precision cast 17-4 Stainless Steel body and 455 Carpenter Steel face insert to optimize feel and ball speed. The club heads are relatively large and thus provide greater forgiveness on off-center hits. Shafts options are either Titleist Diamana Blue 80 Fairway (high launch, moderate spin) or Titleist Aldila VooDoo Fairway (low to mid launch, lower spin).

These hybrids have a list retail price of $210 with graphite shafts and $175 with steel shafts and are aimed at better golfers (handicap 0-9) but are said to be playable for golfers with handicaps of 15 or less

909F2

The 909F2 series aims to produce a higher launch and medium levels of spin. The construction materials are the same as the 909H, that is a precision cast 17-4 Stainless Steel body and 455 Carpenter Steel face insert. The weight screw for optimized CG is also built into these clubs. There is also a multi relief sole which minimizes turf resistance and ensures that the ground contact point remains forward so as to reduce bounce and skip at ball impact.

There are three hybrids in the series, and these come with lofts of 13.5, 15.5, and 18.5 degrees. Both left and right handed versions are available. Standard shafts are Titleist Diamana Blue 75 Fairway and Titleist Aldila VooDoo Fairway. The MSRP for these clubs is $225 for graphite shafts and $200 with steel.

909F3

Slight variations from the 909F2 produce a hybrid that is designed to have a medium launch angle and low spin. The materials are identical to the F2, but the loft angles of the 3 clubs are 13, 15, and 18 degrees, so with stronger launch angles these clubs will have a lower trajectory than the F2. The face profile is slightly different than the F2 to help achieve the design goals. The F3 has a smaller and deeper face than the F2. Pricing for this set is the same as the 909F2.
